Target Components Open Day 2024: Passion, Tech, and Networking

On the 20th of September 2024, we joined a bustling crowd of independent tech business owners, computer shop workers, resellers, and onsite techs at the Target Components Open Day in Leeds. The check-in process was smooth, setting the tone for a promising day ahead. While the rooms were well laid out, the heat in the hotel posed a slight challenge for many attendees.

What stood out immediately was the remarkable passion that the Target staff have for their company. From Michael, the Managing Director, to the marketing, purchasing, and sales teams, every individual exuded enthusiasm and commitment. Even the build room staff demonstrated a deep dedication, reflecting just how much they care about their roles.

The day kicked off with a reception at 9 AM, followed by the exhibition opening at 10:15 AM. Inside, around 35-40 exhibitors, including many of Target’s own brands and services, showcased the latest in tech. Big names like Kingston, Seagate, and Gigabyte drew attention with their offerings, though a few notable names like Adata and Cooler Master were either absent or difficult to spot despite being listed on the website. The exhibition space was well-organized but compact, making it a bit challenging for some attendees, particularly those with accessibility needs.

The event also featured 19 insightful workshops. While it wasn’t possible to attend them all, the standout attraction was the Cyber Security Escape Room, hosted by West Yorkshire Police, which was a major hit with attendees.

Kingston, the event’s headline sponsor, played a significant role in the day’s success, even offering tokens for complimentary drinks during the evening and networking session, adding to the overall positive experience.

The only hiccups were the heat inside the venue and a lack of seating during the lunch buffet, making things slightly uncomfortable for some. However, as event organisers ourselves, we understand the challenges of getting everything perfect, and these were minor issues in an otherwise well-organised event.

As the day transitioned into evening, the atmosphere became more laid-back, with networking taking centre stage. Retro games like bowling, competitive PC gaming setups, and a huge foldable Dahua screen kept things lively throughout the event. Complimentary drinks and a casual buffet of hotdogs and burgers added to the relaxed vibe. The night was capped off with Kirsty’s Poptastic Piano Singalong, where attendees let loose with some fun karaoke, revealing a few hidden singing talents.

The event continued well into the night, with new business connections being made and conversations flowing effortlessly.

From a Tech for Techs perspective, the Target Components Open Day 2024 was a success. We met new vendors, engaged in valuable discussions, and witnessed the passion and dedication of the tech community firsthand, providing us with insights for future endeavours.

The Open Day wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration of the tech industry and the passionate professionals driving it forward. We’re already looking forward to what Target has in store next!
