Introduction :

No matter if you are a hard core gamer or a home and office user, you want peripherals that are comfortable to use, responsive, and attractive.  Today we are focusing on the mouse.  I've been asked to take a look at the Viper V570 RGB Blackout as part two of my three part peripheral showcase.  People, for the most part, will need a mouse that can do simple point and click tasks.  Gamers go beyond that by miles.  Gamers have different needs.  Depending on if you are a first person shooter gamer or an MMO style gamer, or even if you do some of all, you need a mouse that will work well and respond to your needs.  What category will this mouse fall into if any?   Will it tick all the boxes or will it just tick me off?  Read on to find out!

Packaging:

The mouse comes in a really attractive box that will look great on the shelf as well as being eye catching to the customer.  It is mostly black to emphasize the "Blackout".  It would have been nice to have seen a reference to Patriot on the box, being that Viper is made by Patriot.  I'm noticing a lot of companies falling short in this area and it's a real shame.  Nothing says pride in product like stamping your name on it.  It does tell us that it is an RGB, 12,000 DPI, Adjustable Weight, FPS + MMO Hybrid mouse.  If you look on the bottom you will see it sports a 2 year warranty.  That's pretty good for a mouse, considering gamers give a mouse a lot of hammer.

Unboxing:

The V570 when we open the box, comes with an instruction card, and some stickers.  The mouse itself has a nice braided cable and an ergonomic design.

Installation:

Very simple USB plug and play.  Extra software can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

Testing:

The mouse is ergonomically designed.   This may or may not be good for some users. I normally use the Cooler Master Master Mouse M520 due to my claw gripping style. I play mostly MMO style games and found that I could not reach some of the buttons and sometimes my hand cramped. However, Phil, who has larger hands found it to be very comfortable and a great mouse.  He could reach everything and did not have the slightest bit of discomfort. Normally Phil uses the Razer Naga Hex mouse and sometimes finds it difficult to decipher which button is which. (As most are controlled by the thumb)   This mouse actually has more buttons to use and because they are all in a straight line for the most part, they are very easy to find and use.  He plays several kinds of games, does photo editing, and general usage and found it to be a great all-rounder.  So, I would suggest trying it out in store before purchase if possible.

Pricing:

RRP - £49.99,      Available to purchase from Target for around £42(inc Vat)   on sale at Amazon for £54.55

Suppliers:

Target Components

Conclusion:

If you have a larger hand, this could be the perfect mouse for you!  If you have smaller hands, not so much.  Like any mouse, there will be those that it is perfect for and those that should get something else.  It does not mean it is bad.  On the contrary, it just means that we are all different and have different needs.  Most of us try out our peripherals before we buy for this very reason.  I would suggest that you do try this out and keep it in consideration.  With a price of £49.99 RRP, RGB, Adjustable Weight, and 12,000 DPI, it earned our respect.
