Introduction :

Last week we took a look at the Akasa TL and TLY fans.  They were proven to be "geek worthy".  Today we're are looking at their kid sister the TLX.  This is a 120mm fan with LED.  It has me intrigued.  Will it give us the performance of a lifetime or will it be just another of a lifetime or will it be just another singing and dancing act?  Find out this an more in this edition of Tech For Techs.  Oh yes, be sure to like and subscribe on our video as well!

Manufacturer statement:

The Vegas TLX (AK-FN101) is a twin loop dual-sided cooling fan.  The addressable RGB LEDs are split amongst an inner loop and outer loop creating striking system illumination from various angles.  colour customisation options are limitless with compatible motherboards a or controllers.

The Vegas TLX is a 12 cm fan, embedded with 24 digital LEDs.  Once synced with your motherboard or controller, both sides of the fan will smoothly transition between colours.

The fan blades are engineered for low noise and rubber dampening pads around the corners reduce fan vibrating noise for quiet cooling.

The TLX plugs into either a 3 pin or 4 pin 5V digital addressable LED motherboard header and are compatible with 5V ASUS Aura addressable headers,  5VGigabyte digital pin headers, 5V MSI JRainbow headers and 5V AsRock addressable RGB LED headers.

The TLX is compatible with and certified by ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion Ready and AsRock Polychrome SYNC motherboard lighting control applications.  The fan works with motherboards such as MSI's Z370 Godlike Gaming and Gigabyte's X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI.  For a full motherboard compatibility list see Akasa's website.

Fans Tested:

Idle                                                    Average over 30 mins                                        Top Temp in 30 mins

Arctic P12                                               30°C                                                                  52°C                                                                        59°C

Antec (no model)                                  31°C                                                                  52°C                                                                        59°C

Xilence                                                    30°C                                                                  51°C                                                                        58°C

Akasa Vegas TLX                                   30°C                                                                  52°C                                                                        57°C

As you can see in the first column, they all pretty much ran the same on idle with exception of the Antec at 1° higher.  The average over 30 mins was much the same but with the Xilence fan coming in cooler by 1°.  The temperatures ranged from 57°C to 59°C in the Top Temps over a 30-minute span.  The Akasa cooled the best by 1° in this area.  So, basically, they all were as good as the other near enough in idle and average but the Top Temps is where we got to see the real performance.  Well done, Akasa!

  • Target

  • Spire

Conclusion:

There is not a lot I can say that has not already been said.  It does what it says on the tin and looks good doing it.   The fan performs on par with what I would expect of a fan this size.  It scored best in Top Temperature over 30 mins and was competitive with most of the others in Average over 30 mins, and Idle temperature.  I would stock it in my store as well a do builds with it.

Stand out point:  Colours and motherboard compatibility list is extensive

Pros:

  • Rubber screw holes/antivibration

  • Attractive

  • Colours look really good

Cons:

  • silver screws

  • Fan is not 4 pin PWM (does not regulate speed as well as a 4 pin connector and can be more power hungry)
