Introduction :

Lately I'm seeing more and more demand for addressable RGB lighting.  It's no surprise that, Akasa, whom are known for their Vegas lights, have gotten in on the action.  Today we will be looking at the Akasa Addressable RGB LED Frame Kit.  The kit promises to add RGB lighting to any 12cm fan.  It also promises ease of installation. This is great for those of us that have already bought the fans of choice that perform well but we would also like the ARGB lighting.  We don't have to go spend ridiculous amounts of money on new fans.  I will be using it in a proper build so we can get a good look.  We will be using the ThermalTake Level 20 VT case for the build.

I am anxious to see if it lives up to its promises and gets us lit up or if we are still in the dark.  Find out all this and more in this edition of Tech For Techs.

About Akasa  :

Akasa designs and manufactures a wide rance of technology products for industrial and professional environments, as well as gamers, modders, and enthusiasts.  Their products include SFF passive and active case solutions, coolers, fans, PC lighting, and a vast array of card readers, cables and adapters.  Akasa works closely with Intel and AMD to ensure products match the complex demands of CPU and form-factor technology , and specifically develops eco-friendly and silent-technology products.

Packaging:

As usual, Akasa have the packaging down to an art.  It looks smart on the shelf.  There is a hanger if you would like to hang it.  All of the information needed is clearly written on the box.  It is very eye catching and even if someone was not looking to buy it, I can see it catching their eye and making them remember that they saw it and to tell a friend that might need it.

Unboxing:

Inside you have the frame in bubble wrap and 8 screws total in a sealed pack.  There are 4 long screws and 4 regular fan screws.  Also in the box is the RGB adaptor which converts to different RGB headers on your motherboard.

Installation:

For your standard fan, take the four short screws and attach it to the fan with them, plug into the adapter and plug into the ADD_Header on the board.  Pretty straight forward.  You will need to use the software for your board to change the colours.  This varies board to board so be sure to check your manual provided for your board.

Testing:

We used a Xilence red blade fan from the shelf.  Even though it has red blades, the colours from the Akasa ARGB frame made it show off.  If I was in the neighborhood for a red colour scheme this would look awesome.  It even looked great with red blades and the colours changing intermittently.  That's what a great product should do.

Pricing:

Conclusion:

For people like myself that have already gotten the fans they love and don't want to change them but would like a little bling, this is our ticket!  It will be easy to install and easy on the wallet.  Plus, once we have them in and set up as we like, they will look great!  That's exactly what we would expect.  Akasa has gone above and beyond on helping us achieve awesomeness once more.  The only thing I would tell them to do is to make the cable a wee bit longer or offer an extension with it.  Other than that, I say "Why are you not already buying this"? - Jenni

Stand out point:  Ease of installation!

Pros:

  • Easy to install

  • Value for money

  • Works as it should

  • Everything you need is included

  • Packaging looks great

Cons:

  • Cable length could be longer.
